Plato and his ideal state. (What if the lowest floor of the house will be removed?)

Plato and his ideal state. (What if the lowest floor of the house will be removed?)

When Plato created his model of the ideal state, where the lowest part of people are Helots, who were slaves or labor, the middle class were soldiers and the highest class were philosophers, who rule the country. The mission of soldiers are protecting the rulers against Helots, who are working in the fields, and that gives the position of soldiers above Helots, who made all work.

Or actually, Helots made all regular works like build houses and roads. That kind of work is sometimes mentioned as "boring", because that kind of work, like painting houses, is not so-called glorious. The mission of soldiers was to defend the state or republic against enemies, and that kind of thing is interesting because of the problem of those people who might die in their work. And some people dare even ask, why killing other people is so "glorious".

Do you know, why Spartans must train combat all the time? That kept them away from places, where they can face things, that were not wanted to tell them. The mission of the Spartan soldier was to serve the nation, and the thinking was better to leave to philosophers. And the position of soldiers in the pyramid of society was to isolate the philosophers from the regular people or Helots

The model of the ideal state, and at the top is the highest class of people, but what if somebody removes the Helots from society? Who would make the work, what Helots have done?

1) Philosophers who rule the nation

2) Soldiers, whose mission is to protect rulers

3) Helots, whose mission is to make everyday work

Sometimes, when modern philosophers are looking at this model, they are asking has Plato ever seen an apartment building? If the lowest floor is removed, the upper floors would start to hang in the wall, and that means that the lowest floor of the society is the thing, what produces everything, what society needs.

If the Helots are removed, somebody else must take their place. Or the hunger starts to rip the stomach of those people, who are living in society, the food and other equipment must be getting, and if Helots are away the soldiers must start to paint their houses.

Of course, the people, who are seeing themselves as philosophers or soldiers are thinking that the thing, what this model introduces is the society, what everybody wants. But what if you would be one of the Helots, who are working long days in the field? Or what if you would be the soldier, who is in the lowest rank in the system?

Would you like to live in that kind of society? Or what if you are a philosopher, who would give a wrong order? That kind of thing is really interesting to think, and of course, if we are thinking that society is for war, what if we are losing that conflict? Who the enemy will punish if they are winning the war? Would that person be the leader of soldiers and philosopher, who ordered that war? Or would the punishment was given to the regular people, or Helots, who just followed the orders?
