Internet is the biggest opportunity. But also the biggest threat to democracy.

The internet allows to deliver information but also manipulate it in a new way. Internet is allowing that people can communicate straight with politicians. And let them know bout the difficulties and needs of society. But the same thing allows hostile actors to take contact straight with political leaders and offer them something. 

Or the hostile actor can introduce the research. That kind of faked research can tell that most people want something that is against the national interest. That thing can make simply introducing the faked polls. There is the possibility that there is no poll at all. And those kinds of things are affecting the politicians.

The media companies can be good platforms for cyber attacks. 

The thing that makes international web and social media and media operators a threat to democracy and national security is that they can act as a platform for the operations of the GRU and other intelligence services. Social media channels can use for collecting information. 

The GRU agent might just ask people where they or their family members are working. But the regular media can turn the weapon against democracy if they are in the wrong hands. Well-known and trusted media channels can turn into a propaganda factory in seconds. 

The actors like GRU or FSB can just buy media houses by using some covert company. And then they can replace the entire crew with their staff. Then the company starts to send the Russian propaganda. The fact is that the media company can deliver one-sided information on purpose or accidentally. There is a possibility that the sources that reporters use are telling lies. 

But also reporters can be the agents who are telling the version of "truth" that serves their government.  And that thing makes them very good actors in the indoctrination operations that are also called psychological operations or PSY-OPS. 

The new threats to democracy are the governmentally controlled trolls.

We live in the western world. And our world governments are protecting people. If somebody threatens us we might call the police. In the cases of hacking and trolling the police tries to track that actor. And if the actor is in a foreign land. Authorities send international arrest warrants. But then Chinese hackers attacked western facilities. They were tracked and then the Chinese authorities couldn't operate. 

The reason for that was that those hackers operated under the control of the Chinese government and worked for PLA (People's Liberation Army). Also, the cyberattacks that targeted Baltic states did not cause juridical actions in Russia. The reason for that was that the attacks happened under the control of the GRU, Russian military intelligence. 

Those cases have proven that western authorities couldn't predict and react to the situations that hackers operated under governmental control. The same way the Russian troll factory is operating under governmental control. The operator sits in Russia or China and the assistant is bringing the computer to the western world. The hacker or troller uses that remote computer for operations and that makes it difficult to prove. That attacks are coming from outside of borders. That makes it also difficult to deny that kind of attack. Because just closing the connections from those countries is not enough.  

The kill-ware or killing malware is a big threat. Maybe it's just hype, but the threat is still real. In scenarios, the malware is used to cause the disorder. Or give extra time for friendly military operators.

In the worst-case scenario, the malware shuts down the controlling computers of the nuclear power plants. That causes a need to shut down energy production. In some other scenarios, the malware destroys important databases in critical moments. 

The malware destroys the medical databases or databases that are controlling the flight of the missiles. If the users of those missiles recognize that the databases are destroyed. Replacing them requires a couple of minutes and in modern warfare, a couple of minutes is a long time.

Media can also use to deliver malware. The normal media can involve links that will cheat the user to download some software. And that kind of software can be malware. In the worst case, the malware kills people. 

The killing malware is the computer software that can kill people. That malware might be the computer virus that changes the blood types in the hospital. And that thing is the most dangerous situation if somebody needs blood transfer. 

Another version is the computer virus that raises the level of the runways. Or maybe it can shut down the engines of the aircraft and refuse to shut down autopilot. But that kind of malware can also change the programming code of the gas pedal of the automobile. And that means that the system starts to accelerate the car in the wrong place. 

There are many places where the killing malware can affect. In the nuclear or uranium enrichment process, the malware can raise the speed of the centrifuges. And that thing can cause a nuclear explosion in those facilities. The threat of that type of malware. Forces to shut down nuclear power plants. And in those cases, even the threat is enough for losing energy.

In everywhere inside our society is some kind of hierarchy, this is the thing, what we must confess. Every team has a leader, whose mission is to make a different kind of particles like people, who have different backgrounds working together. And the leader has a responsibility, that the team does the work, as well it can. If somebody has problems with that, this means discussion. Hierarchy means that the leader, or person who is acting as a leader has power and authority to the workers, and that thing is always one of the most difficult things in the world.

The position of the leader is to be the representer of the supreme leaders of the company, and if there is something wrong in the team, that thing causes divorcement. So leaders are giving orders and henchmen are following those orders. This is the way, as it works. But then we must remember, that if the team leader would not give orders, the fault for unsuccessful action is the leader. And that's why the team leader must not think to be a member of the team. The position of the leader is being outside of the team, and the role is like a coach in some ice-hockey match. And if the thing goes wrong the person, who is responsible for those things should be found.

So this is one version of hierarchy, but some people like to keep the hierarchical pyramids. In this model is three or four levels of leaders in the organization, and in this model, somebody would start to work as a middleman. This person just looks at the order from the Email and then resends that thing to henchmen. That kind of person ever does anything and they just resend the emails. And this is the thing, what we must remember when we are thinking hierarchy.

What is the person's position in hierarchy?

Another person would carry responsibility, and that actor would just say, that other people have given orders. They couldn't do anything in the cases, where chemicals are delivered to nature. There is always somebody else, who has responsibility with that kind of thing, and the email has been sent, that there corrosion in the tube. But that kind of person is always against reforms. Their benefit is that the traditional way to make things is continuing in their environment.

At last, I must say something about hierarchy in social life. When somebody wants to replace the working democratic system with hierarchy, you should ask, what is that person's position in this system? Here we must remember, that all life is not spent on the work. We have also free time, where we are facing another kind of thing.

Sometimes people are thinking that democracy is always the best thing because the vote cannot be sold or buy. But when we are thinking about sports clubs, what is acting as trusts, we must ask, "how many times the chairman of those trusts have been selected, because that person can get a sale from the gynḿansiums".  Think about this, when you are reading this kind of thing.

Aristotle said, that the right to give votes must reserve to "free men" because they have the best knowledge about the things, and then about a thousand years after that the voting right expanded to belong also for free women. Those people are handicapped, ward, underage or foreigners, who would not have citizenship, and that's why those people have not right to vote in elections. And this means that they are so-called "necessary evilness", which means that the state must deny the situation, that two million foreigners would come to its territory and votes to the involved in some other country.

But the question is, why youngsters' opinions about the laws are not ever asked? Maybe there is no time for that. But when we are thinking about democracy, and the principle that vote cannot be bought, the answer is a little bit complicated than we ever thought, and the answer would be that there are people, who would buy votes.

Those people would offer more salary, lower taxes and another kind of thing, but there is one problem, the government would need that money, and even the taxes of salaries would be low, the taxes of the food, fuel and another kind of stuff would rise. And this is one thing, what we cannot even think about. If we would want to crush our political opposition, we might call our leaders as the "expert", and that thing would make those people more trusted in the eyes of the great public than world "leader". "

An "Expert" is one of the worlds, which shows real professionalism, and that would be a really good argument in the political discussions. But when we are thinking about "free men", we must realize that in modern times Aristotle would say "free persons" are only capable individuals for making decisions, because they have "right knowledge". But then we should ask, what exactly means "free person"?

Does that mean some businessman or maybe the specialist of administration? Or is it a person, who is a member of the ring, what makes decisions? And who would get the place in this hypothetical ring? Is that the person, who has the right training, and that training could be free to get. But then we must realize, that the high price of those, maybe administrative training would be a good way to eliminate not wanted persons from that training. This is one point of view of those things.

And censorship is a very bad thing in a democracy. If we are thinking election campaigns is not tolerated to deny to print the campaign material of some candidate by using political arguments, rejecting the offer by using argument, that we don't want to print that material we would be childish. If the price of that material would be so high, that person cannot pay it, that will be a very good alternative for political censorship. In this model, political marketing and campaign commercials would be under the heavy tax. And that would make them very expensive.

But if we would give the announcement, that thing would be tax-free, and then the parties, what are under the power would pay a lower price for their commercials because their commercials are interpreted as the announcements. Because opposition cannot pay the prices, their candidates would not get their commercials to the media. And this is the good and non-violent way to make sure, that the same persons would be in the control of the state.

Here we should ask, why somebody would resist revolution in every society? The revolution is the violent method to change society and people who want to resist it are arguments their way to think, that society needs a calm advantage. The violence would support the power in the country, and that is a good argument for people, who want to reduce the freedom of speech.

And the otherwise the question is that, who makes decisions of the material, what can be published and what is banned? And who would select things, what are printed in the school books? Those persons have the power to decide, what kind of thoughts people would think and what models the children get. People who resist revolution argue against fast changes. They call this slow advancing the natural advantage, which means that society is like a flowing river, which would travel across time.

That thing, what we are calling as"flowing society" would make it's route peacefully and calm over the state, and the attempts to change that thing fast causes violence. Those people think that changes in society must happen by using their weight, and the changes are inevitable, but they must have time to happen in a peaceful process.

Those people are saying that fast movements in the track of society are causing more resistance than peaceful and sharply investigated change. But the change would always be in front of us. There is nothing stable in the world than change. And when we are thinking about the change, there is always something, which makes the first action.

And if the people would think that censorship is the cure for that thing, they must realize that if there are many things dammed behind the iron doors, that means that the pressure for change is also dammed. That thing means that when the dams are opened that would cause violent effects. That's why those changes must flow freely.

Democracy is the right to know things, and that makes that thing a more complicated thing than we ever thought. The thing is that democracy is one itself an ideology. But it is the thing that offers the base of many ideologies. And the worst case in the democracy is that, what if people don't know how they are voting. Or what kind of people they are elected to parliament?

If we want to misuse something democracy is the perfect tool for that kind of thing. The populism can give tools, which allows marketing own ideology on the internet by using things like alcohol taxes and VAT for selling own ideas to normal people. There is one little thing, that is ever mentioned when we are talking about democracy. In the publicity is not a sharp description of the populism, and that thing is the good word to crush political resistance of own ideology.

And philosopher Rousseau said once that people must be taught to think the right way. Or did he say that "people must learn to think the right way"? The first version means that the government tells people, how they should think and vote. The second version is that people would self learn, what is best for them. And the problem in both of those models is that who will say, what is the right way to think?

People would get their knowledge from the sources, what they are allowed to use. That means that the selectors of material would always affect the opinions of the people. This would cause question, who decides the books and homepages, what are published, and what are banned from the Internet, bookstores, and libraries. One of the worst cases that can happen to state is that it is lead by the popular dictator, who would crush minorities for taking popularity.

And the question is, did those people, who handled those campaigns knew, that the claimed donations came from drug mafia?

Those gangsters are done that kind of donations in Colombia, so why don't they try that also in Venezuela, which could offer the transit for their product. But the thing is that the Lake Maracaibo, where most of the oilrigs located is very polluted, which would not seem nice at this time when the customers are becoming more and more ecological.

We cannot just whip those things like single-party governments what are ruling by using massive police control away from the public eye. But when we are facing the modern world, the problem is that people are reacting otherwise,  what we are predicted.

The thing is that somebody would translate those meetings that the highest political leader of the Western world is accepting the government of North Korea, and everything, what it makes. The thing is that people do not like this kind of gestures. The problem is that the North Korean government is telling people, that the USA and the Western world accept the authoritarian way to rule.

And the propaganda is telling that the government of Kim is getting international acceptance to its way to rule. That means that if we are thinking about the things at the point of the way of the North Korean psychological operations, the thing is that those operators claim, that the resistance is useless, and people must just follow the rule.

And there is one actor, who would need that kind of situation, that the western world would have to buy the oil and natural gas from somewhere else, and that man if Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia.

2. What if the relationship between Muslims and the Western world would collapse?

That thing would increase the power of Russia because it controls the natural gas and oil in its area. And if the Western world would not please Russia, that would make decisions, that the deliveries of the natural gas and oil would be ended. That thing would make a very bad energy crisis, and that would make western Europe careful to comment on the things, what are happening in the Muslim states.

Because if there is no relationship between the western world and the Muslims. The only choice to buy the oil and natural gas is Russia, that state would deliver that thing if it wants. But there is a possibility, that the western world must make concessions to Russia if it wants to get oil and gas. Otherwise, there must be found other energy sources. And those sources would be really expensive.

3. If we would have only one delivered to the gas and oil, that deliverer can force the customer to make concessions, or they can cut the energy delivering.  

If there is only one deliverer for the natural gas and oil, we must realize, that this deliverer makes decisions, does it want to deliver that fuel. There are many differences between Iraq and Russia, and one thing is that Russia has nuclear weapons. That equipment guarantees that there are no plans to make similar operations like in Kuwait. Kuwait had no nuclear weapons, and that country needed protection against Saddam Hussein.

And sometimes I have thought that maybe there are people around the world, who want to keep Muslims and Christians far away from them together. That denies the talking about things like cultural differences, and this kind of thing would deny the people to talk with foreigners especially the if they are Muslims. When we are thinking about things like a violation against human rights, we must notice, that in many times, there is some kind of secrecy about things, if they are done in the Muslim states.

As I have written before the same algorithms, what are used for marketing, can be used to target the propaganda on the Internet, and this makes them a very effective tool in the wrong hands. At the begin, we have faced cases, where politicians are suspected to send the trolls to their E-mails or social media accounts.

That would seem a very nice method to grow own popularity in the eyes of normal people. So politics is a dirty game, and that means that there are many people, who would use trolls to support their candidate. The messages that are full of hate and treats are a good way to bring publicity and also give a reason to be saying nothing. If that kind of candidate would not come to political discussions the reason could be afraid that something would happen.

When we are thinking about propagandists and their way to work, we are facing really uncertain methodology, where some Internet users are collecting a really big audience by sharing some kind of entertainment stuff on the net. And then they are turning their accounts to the tool of propaganda.

The big audience is a necessary thing for propagandists

The idea of this is that when the propagandist or PSY-OP-operator would start the mission, the information what is shared will get the largest audience, what those people can get. When we are thinking about psychological operations and fake news, there are many ways to accomplish the operation.

One of the things is to use manipulated images, where are connected details, like white powder on the table, by using photo manipulation programs, like Photoshop. Another way is to capture the accounts, which are used by respected journalists. In those cases, the propagandist would try to use the information is always very simple.

Propagandists believe in strong leadership

The data, what is shared is almost every time propped up by using the position as the manager. That means that the propagandists almost every time support the strong leadership, which would give them the chance to influence only one person, and strong leaders are good targets for flatterers. In those cases pleasing the leader is easier than please many people. The thing, what we ever thought or what we ever mentioned in the courses is that also journalists have political opinions. The world is full of people, who believe things like authoritarianism and totalitarianism. Some of those people are journalists. Have you ever visited in the non-democratic country?

There is a so-called official press, and there are people, who are writing stories in those official newspapers. Those people are really problematic because they are writing a very good language, and nobody actually realizes that the information, what those people share is shared without criticism and using one-side sources. The best weapon in the hands of propagandists is the subjective truth. Also in the propaganda weapons and violence are in the big role.

Those people are using many times the images, where the people, who they support are posing with guns, and they would many times tell people that if the comments are involving too much criticism those guns would be used against people, who are criticizing the data.  Violence is a very good way to order other people to keep their mouth shut, and one of the best argument is the neighbor what has 20 million nuclear weapons, and brainwashed military force. If you will irritate the leaders of that country they will attack immediately.

When they are telling about the rapes, they are telling only rapes, what are made by foreigners. And those people are really good to use pity as the weapon. If we would go to some dictatorial country, what goes on war, we would see the bodies of children. And of course, the government tells us that they would be killed by the enemy, but what is the truth? When people are telling something, or they are ordered to do something, we must ask one question, and that is "who is given orders to that thing, and what that person has actually ordered"?

Truth is a complicated thing

The truth is a very complicated thing, and maybe some airstrikes to villages have killed civilians but were there the radio-transmitter in that village. Or was the bombed shelter used the command center? This is a very good point to think about what we see, might be different, what we want to believe. And we always want to believe, that journalists are good people. Sometimes journalists have connections even to organized crime, and that kind of things are really embarrassing.

In the world is many dictators, whose secret police controls the press, and those people are playing reporters. They always have the explanations for everything and in that kind of cases, where the journalists are working as propagandists or troll-makers, they have always a very good way to keep people silent. The thing is that they have their own personal experience with that kind of crimes, and that would be a good way to make people silent.
