The idea of Plato's "ideal state" is interesting.
---------------------------------------------
The three-layer original version of Plato's state
The original model of the ideal state of Plato has three layers. Every state was protected by Gods what justifies the use of force in the name of the state.
1) Philosophers ("Wise men") who ruled the society ("We rule and think for you")
3) Soldiers whose mission is to follow the rules ("We bite you in the name of the state") That thing justifies the use of the force, and soldiers always follow their orders.
3) Workers ("We are working for them")
---------------------------------------------
The medieval version of Plato's ideal state
Every model of the state is made for modeling the way to use the power. And if the ruler wants to use force, they must argue their orders.
When the rulers realized that they need somebody who would be above them. That thing was because in the cases that the knights would kill ordinary people, they always said that orders were coming from the philosophers. So they needed the king.
The difference between medieval and original models of Plato's ideal state was that in the Medieval version of this model God was the personal protector of the King. Theologists told people that the King was ruling because that person was selected by God that means that rebel against King was the thing that justifies executing those rebels because excusing the orders was blasphemy. And soldiers can say that they are working in the name of God and King if they made something, what was not accepted.
---------------------------------------------------
Modified Plato's theory
In the Medieval or four-layer version of Plato's model was one extra-layer, what was reserved for the King. The King was the ruler of the rulers and absolute authority, who ruled in the name of God.
1) The King (Ruler of the rulers, who rules in the name of the god)
2) Philosophers (Or higher class theologists) ("Wise men") who ruled the society. Only the King was above those people and he could anytime take control or give rules without caring for those people. ("We rule and think for you if the King would not want to do that for us")
3) Soldiers whose mission is to follow the rules ("We bite you in the name of the god and state") That thing justifies the use of the force, and soldiers always follow their orders.
4) Workers ("We are working for them")
----------------------------------------------------
I have many times before this text written about Plato and his "ideal state" the reason why this model of state pleased leaders was that person must accept the position and not excuse anything, what the higher ranking citizen tells. So the idea is that if a person is born as a worker, there is no way up.
In many stories, the military service of the country was glamorized, and in Plato's ideal state the mission of the military was to make the canyon between ordinary people and philosophers who rule the nation. When the person would get the promotion in the society, the first promotion was to call to the military service. And during that service, the selectors made sure that the person was not very popular. The mission of this isolation was that the person who called to learn things like theology did not tell secrets to the workers.

So how to rise on the stairs of the medieval model of the society?
The image of the Medieval model of Plato's ideal state is the pyramid of society. As we see the model is similar to the original model of Plato. There are four layers. And in original Plato's model were three layers. There is one extra-layer the layer of the King, the ruler of the rulers. When a person joined the military, that thing gave the person route to the front of the knights.
The son of that person would earn the place in the line of knights, which made the distance to ordinary people. And then the son of the knight would get a call to serve as the higher priests like cardinals and bishops. So the position of the King was reserved for one of those higher-ranking noblemen.

Why philosophers lead the Ideal state?
Philosophers were wise men in Ancient Greece, and that means that the state must lead by philosophers, who were wise men, and nobody should excuse them. If somebody excuses things like the wisdom of the rulers of the state that thing would be a great catastrophe. And that's why people should not think themselves about things, what is belonging to the head of the state.
The thing in the idea of Plato's ideal state was that people were never should think that it is human behind every state. So suspicious of the motivation is prohibited.
The model of the society of Plato used in medieval Europe, and there was only one level more than in Plato's original model, and that level was the level of the king. The state of Plato couldn't make mistakes, it was the top authority, which ordered everything. In the Medieval period, the new ruler, King has taken the part of the state. And the mission of the state was to protect the King who was the highest ruler in the state.
