The Mars colony and required population of people


The problem with the Mars colony is that there is needed about 110 people(1), who would make buildings and other things. This thing means that the persons, who are working with this kind of project must be very highly sophisticated trained professionals. Things like remote-controlled 3D-printers can help this kind of project, and maybe to Mars would send the robots and artificial intelligence-based support units to make the buildings for the colony. And put the places to the order, that humans can start to operate comfortably and safely on the red planet. 


The robots, what are creating the structures for buildings can be like humans, what wrists would be equipped 3D-printing system. That makes those robots a little bit like E.T from the movie E.T. That imaginational alien had the finger, what it could use as the welding system. So the robots, what are building the base for humans could be operated with the 3D-printers. The thing is that robots can keep their hands stable enough even days, and that makes it possible to use advanced 3D-printing technology for making structures like bars. 


The material for that kind of structure would get from the surface of the planet Mars. But when we are thinking about people, who would make that colony, there is a problem, there is a possibility, that somebody is injured on the red planet. In that case, there must be highly trained medical staff, which can give medical attention to the injuries. 


This means that the safety of those people should be guaranteed because if the medical staff is injured, that kind of person is hard to replace. So the expeditions on the surface of the red planet must be denied from those people. If the surgeon would be injured, there is nobody who makes the surgical operation to that person. That kind of thing that the carbon dioxide closure would vaporize under the surface of Mars. 


And if somebody stands at that point, dropping in the hole could cause injuries. The same way things like sandstorms and static electricity can harm systems, and this is the thing, that the colonists must realize. The computers must be protected by EMP-protection, which denies the problem with static electricity. 


Cell cultures and biotechnology allows producing milk and meat in the tanks, where that kind of products can collect from the tanks. Producing meat and milk by using cell-cultures eliminates the use of the animals, and make food more sophisticated. 


When we are thinking about the food-supply of that kind of base, the crew should eat vegetarian food. The vegetables must be created in the greenhouses. Every single window in that hypothetical base must be protected against UV-radiation. But if genetic engineering can make it possible to grow the meat from cell cultures, and that thing would help Earth with increasing population. 


Producing meat by using cell cultures would turn also meat production into ecological. The thing is that cell-cultures and biotechnology can make animal-based food more ecologic, and it can give also the possibility to make the meat and milk in the biotechnical factories, where those cells are stored in the tanks, and then the productions like milk can be collected easily.
