Totalitarianism and control
The mission of government is to defend people. And for making that thing, the government must have the power to protect itself. The purpose of police and other governmental institutions is to protect weaker people, and sometimes we are facing reality, that the government doesn't please us. When we are thinking about the role of the police, we must say that if the majority is always right, we would not need that organization. But somehow sometimes minorities are right, and the majority makes crimes against them. In that case, the mission of the police is to find out things, that happened.
The laws are made for giving certain rules, how people should act in each situation. The principles of law is that thing is common, and every people must have the same punishment if they are breaking the laws. And if a person has made the same crimes before, that must be noticed by the judge, and in this case, the person should turn to warn other people that breaking the law is not the right way to act.
When we are thinking that the purpose of the police work is to remove dangerous people from the streets, we must remember that the description of the word "dangerous" is really important. Is the dangerous person just criticizing the way, how the government acts? Or does that person agitate people attack against the leaders of the state? This is the major question when we are talking about the use of force.
Words are not just words. They can do very many bad things for people if they are used for the wrong purpose. Liberty of the press and publishing are always arguments, that are also used to support non-democratic movements. So every government must sometimes take apart in the writings. Also when we are talking about the role of the government in society, that must have the authority to make the life of people safe. Government and police are created to defend people against anarchy. But sometimes the government goes too far and turns to dictatorship.
Thing, what makes totalitarianism attractive is that every responsibility is in the government, which makes the decision, and people must just follow the rules. This would let people go easily because they must not think anything. The only thing that must be done is to obey the rulers, and if somebody has different opinions, that kind of person must be taught to stop thinking. Why we must think about things when other people are doing that thing?
Or rather saying, who would be attracted about the case, that we don't use our brains. When we are seeing history the totalitarian governments are always won democratic governments is the argument, what is supporting totalitarianism, but is it the truth and nothing about the truth? The thing is that sooner or later the power of the government goes in the hands of despots, and then the revolution would end the era of that government.
But the order must return to society, and this is the thing that we must remember when we are thinking about the tough actions of the secret police of the Soviet Union. The nation was in anarchy in 1923 and order must be returned by using rough police force. And that argument was used when secret police arrested millions of people, but that thing cost the lives of millions of people. But it doesn't make those actions more beautiful.
But when we are thinking about liberalism, that thing can also go too far. And then people are starting to want orders and regulations back.
In this version, the society acts like some kind of pendulum, when the society has turned to dictatorship, the society would start to look for freedom, and then the pendulum of society goes to the other far wing position, what makes people need order. That means that the far wing liberalism is not good for the nation. And finding the middle-way version between totalitarianism and liberalism is really difficult. When we are thinking of the government purely as the user of the force, we are finding two ways to make that thing.
The first version is to build a powerful police organization, which would come to place only when something happens. That kind of force is using rough force and that seems not good in the public media. This version would be supported by powerful censorship. The other version is to build the organization's mission is to predict the illegal action and then arrest those people before they are causing problems. And that is making possible to build dictatorship by using secret arresting. But the same system can be used to detect dangerous actors in society. And here we should describe the word "dangerous".
The problem of an authoritarian government is that thing that needs a powerful police force. That kind of police force could be that those people need work to do, or that kind of work turns boring. And when we are thinking about things like a speeding ticket, we must not like that thing. Those payments are needed for punishments and teach us that we are breaking the law, but the thing is that there are two kinds of police actions. Right and wrong. Wrong is to use the police to protect despotism. The right is to prevent things like violence, or this is the way, how I want to believe that thing is.
