CHAMP (The Counter-electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project) is the non-lethal cruise missile, what would terminate the electronics and communication equipment by using microwaves. The problem is that even CHAMP is marketed as "non-lethal weapon", the thing is that standing in the microwave area might not be healthy.

In fact, CHAMP might cause terrible injuries for people, who it targeted, because when microwave hits to metal particles or some other dense material, that material starts to warm. This thing means that metal particles like buckles and helmets might start to heat, and this might cause injuries.

EMP-weapons can shut down, as an example the electronic systems of the ships, which are carrying nuclear weapons. And this might make possible to capture those weapons. It can also damage the systems, what are controlling the nuclear reactors, and safety systems of nuclear and other special weapon storages. This can make possible to capture those weapons, what are the most lethal things, what mankind has ever created. 

And another thing is that the ammunition in the boxes start to warm, what might cause explosions. The thing is that weapons like CHAMP could be used against enemy aircraft, and drone swarms and ships, and they can damage the controlling electronics of those vehicles.

If the EMP-missile flies through the missile or aircraft group, it destroys their electronics, but microwaves also heat the core of the aircraft, and that can cause fatal damages. But the problem with CHAMP and other EMP weapons is that if it is targeted to the warships, what is carrying nuclear weapons, it can destroy electric systems of the devices. And this thing allows abducting nuclear weapons from that installation.
