The problems with image recognition

The problems with image recognition

One problem with the face recognition program is that kind of software, what is used in some controlled situations like unlocking the computers in certain brightness are not suitable for recognizing the people from the streets. And another problem, what has caused problems especially in London and other areas of Great Britain is that the shadows that are falling on the face if people are using caps are making recognition very dangerous.

The problem is that the camera has also problems to get the necessary contrast if the system is looking at black people. When we are thinking about law enforcement and its relationship with minorities, we must face the thing, that many times the member of the minority community is more often stopped than the member of the majority community.

But when we are talking about the recognition system, what is used in Great Britain, I don't know are those databases linked with the systems, what are collecting data from the demonstrations, or drawing support messages for the IRA.  And that kind of things would cause also arresting in that country.

But if the image recognition would able to make so-called "rough selection" it would eliminate the chance to put the cases like shoplifting on the shoulder of some rockers. The system would recognize the clothes and deny false recognition in the cases, where the case is fresh. Sometimes thieves are using tactics, where they would claim that some punk or member of the minority community is the thief, and the artificial intelligence can pick the cases, where the stopped person is totally different looking than the thief.

The thing is that recognizing people from the natural environment is a little bit different than reading the registration plates. The thing is that the sensors are advancing, and the most modern surveillance cameras are also using laser scanners and infrared radiation areas, which makes the recognition more trusting.

The infrared systems can also block weapons like knives and guns, which are hidden under clothes. There is no problem with that kind of things. But there is another problem with image recognition, and that is political. If the image recognition programs are collecting data from multiple nations, that would uncover things, what people might keep undercover. One is that if the person often visits the embassy of Russia, that kind of things would be noticed in the counter-intelligence.

But there is another problem with that kind of things is that if this kind of automatized systems would be trusting in someday, that would cause that some big part of the work of law enforcement will be ended. Even now the system can recognize things like Rasta hair and other rocker styles. And it notices that if the thief of some other tracked person would be a member of some ethnic group.
