Open source rules in the computer industry and modern computer games can be used to train languages and social skills.
The Space X corporation has been select the "open source" Linux operating system for the operating system for their spacecraft computers(1), and that thing shows how flexible and capable that Finnish designed operating system is. The open-source and also open architecture are the key elements in the ongoing research and development work in that operating system, which has been found its road to many computers from the laptops to the most powerful supercomputers. And the thing is that open architecture is also giving the same computer code to run many types of graphics, and this is given the nice visions in the area of computer games.
The simulations, what are also computer games are used in many missions from the planning traffic solutions in everyday life to some exotic like training people operating in radiation accidents and military operations. The thing is that computer games can be advancing and serve education, and one example of those things are new computer simulations, which are used to train people to handle social situations and the same games can be used in language training. Those games are reacting to voice commands, and if the person reacts wrong way or uses the wrong world that thing can give false points. And they can support to learn foreign languages.
The thing that the codes of the hit games Command& Conquer and Tiberian Dawn are published(2) by the EA means that everybody can create their graphics for those games, and that thing opens interesting visions for people, who want to modify the computer games. At this point, I must say that the code has been published without graphics animations and sound effects. So if somebody wants to benefit that code, that person must get their graphics and sound effects.
That means "open architecture". The scenes of the game can be modified to introduce Roman, Medieval, or WWII scenarios. So by using that kind of thing makes it possible to modify the games by using unlimited imagination. The thing is that the same code can run every kind of graphics, and the only thing what the modeler of the game must know, is what name to give those graphics files, but they can be found from the code, and that thing is making this kind of advantage interesting.
And the future can be that the "open source" would expand to the game industry. There is a possibility that in the future the games can be developed like Linux. Maybe those projects will be funded by commercials that the sponsors will get their products in those games, or maybe the people, who are taking part in those projects can have free access to those games for a while, and the outsiders should donate that they can play.
The idea is that the last version of the game can be payable, but elder versions can be free. That kind of versions would allow that that people can work with this kind of projects full time. So maybe that will open the new roads also for game development. And computer games can also be acting as the training purposes for commanders of the rescue, law enforcement, and military sectors. In the world of adults, those games are called simulators, but actually, they are like computer games.
