Wings of desire (Der Himmel über Berlin)
Der Himmel über Berlin means literally "The Sky over Berlin", and I write this text because I just watched this movie. This movie was made in 1987 when West Berlin was in the middle of East Germany, and there were two Germanys. West Berlin was like some island in the middle of another state, which was somehow interesting but at the same time frightening. East Germany was a society, that controlled everybody.
The security police used eavesdropping and only the suspicion that people had some attitudes, which was against the "accepted opinions" caused arresting and those people send to a mental institute. Sometimes people have asked, what would East Germany's security police make with a quantum computer?
There was a wall around West Berlin what was like a wall between two worlds, and there could be seen houses in East Berlin while people were walking around Berlin near the famous wall. The roofs of those houses were interesting but at the same time frightening. And there were tales that the East German security police photographed people who walked near the wall. That famous Berlin wall was more than just a wall.
It was the line between two worlds Communist East Germany and Capitalist Wes Germany. It was also the border between the two most powerful military alliances. There were tales that there were hidden 100 megatons nuclear device in East Berlin, and the same tale told about West Berlin. There were many tales around that city.
In one version the East German authorities hide the loudspeakers in the structures of the Berlin wall. In some other versions of that urban legend, the loudspeakers would replace by using the electromagnetic system. But those things are only urban legends.
Those loudspeakers would send the infrasound to West Berlin, and then that system could brainwash all the population of West Berlin. Another version was that in wartime the East German military would conduct electricity to that wall, and then the electric field would burn the entire West Berlin. The urban legends are powerful weapons in the right hands.
