The ancient holy places and tourists

The ancient holy places and tourists

The problems with ancient holy places and tourism are that even if tourists bring money for local people, that thing would increase the erosion, and also tourists are disturbing archeological research in those places. Unlike Uluru in Australia what is closed from tourists is a well-known monument, places like Ukonsaari-Island in Finland are not very well researched, and even those places are known as the holy places of the ancient religions, there is not made much scientific research in that kind of places.

But also the cultural and religious reasons are causing that those places wanted to rest in peace. They are telling us the places and times, which was a long time ago. And maybe they have a great mean for some people, who are living today.

The thing is that the archeologists are looking at the bones and other things, what are left behind those rituals, they want to find out, what kind of rituals are done in those places. The type of sacrificed animals is defined by using DNA, and that means that those places must keep clean. Sometimes holy places were used for the discussions between the eldest persons of the community, and if the person who broke against other villages or villains was convicted the other villain must accept that.

And if the person made homicide, the punishment was death but were those executions done in the holy islands is the thing, what is very interesting. Also, the great witches and shamans allowed to die in that kind of place, because that made possible to control that the secrets of shamans would not go to the ears of wrong people.

In the communities of Vikings were quite common, and they made those sacrifices four times per year. And if the community was under threat those sacrifices were made more often. So did Vikings use the same places with Sami for their rituals?

One of the most interesting things is that were those places used also for human sacrifices, and how those sacrificed persons were selected, and the same way interesting thing would be that the holy place was reserved for certain highly respected groups? By using chemical analysis the food, what those people have eaten, and if a certain type of remaining of amino acid or hallucinogens will be found, that would tell the person was a shaman or highly respected chief. And if some places were reserved for the highest respected shamans, the DNA would allow tracking the families of those people.

If there can be found human remains that would help to track the people, who were in the high position and served as shamans. What they have done because they met that fate? in some cultures, the persons, who have made homicides were used in that kind of rituals, and there is one very interesting point in those rituals. That means that the girl must get baby before the punishment would be done, and then that baby was taken to society.

But when we are looking at the holy places, we must ask, how those places became holy? The thing is Uluru was the place, where "giant Eagle" gets the body, and maybe Ukonsaari-Island is chosen for the same reasons. Ravens would find the body, what was left on that island was destroyed by Ravens, and the Ravens have a special place in the Northern mythology.

The highest god of Vikings, Odin had two ravens Hugin and Mudin (Think and Memory), the thing is that the religion of Sami was quite similar to the religion of Vikings, and that means that Ravens were representers of the highest god. But was the "Ukko" what was the highest God of Sami one version of Odin. Both characters were gods of thunder. And if we are thinking the form of Ukonsaari-Island, the flashes of lightning strikes quite often in that place.
