Diversity in working life part III (When a different kind of person has superior to us)
One example of the cases, where the majority is not right is when the boss of the company has a different opinion than henchmen because the boss is superior or otherways saying, in a different and this case higher position than others. This is the thing in the position of the boss or leaders and directors. They are giving rules, and other people must follow those orders. If that thing doesn't please, the henchman can start to ask for a new job.
When we are talking about the diversity of working life, we always forget one golden thing in that thing. What if that different person is our superior? What would we do in this case? So even if we would sometimes in our younghood selected workplace, where we can be with similar people, what we are, we might face the situation that the company has been sold and the new owner would come from the Saudi-Arabia.
In that case, we can, of course, change our working place, and say the reason for that is we want to be with similar people, what we are. In that case, we might have a big problem with the attitudes, if the policy in the company has been that the benefit of the majority has always been first. In that case, the problem is that we cannot kick owners out of the company, and if they would put some controller for us, we cannot kick that person out of the office.
The thing is that in some cases the new owners would use the observer, who would meet new workers and explore ways, what might cause adjusting for the behaves and tradition in some companies. The thing is that in those cases the henchmen must just follow the rules, what the new bosses would give, or they can find a new job.
But when we are facing minorities or different kinds of people in working life, we must ask, why those people give challenges? If somebody talks a little bit slower than others, there might be the reason, that person is the translator, whose home language is a little bit different than other people's language.
And that case would cause things, that we must speak a little bit slower or listen a little bit longer when that person will find the correct words. But those cases would not be problems. This is one version of diversity. So if we think that we can just follow the will of the majority, we must realize, that business life is not democracy.
Owners of companies are giving rules, how people should act in the workplace. And in modern life, we must realize that ownership of the company can change all the time. If the owners would be foreigners or the foreign company has brought our workplace, we can do only one thing. Follow the rules and start to flex, or we can start to make new job applications. The bosses would give orders and others must follow those rules. This is the way in modern working life.
